Web 2.0 and YOU!

1. How will emerging technology (ie: blogs, videos, e-readers,e-books) affect literacy?

Emerging technology will affect literacy because people will be influenced by the society. People now-a-days use abbreviations of a slang term to talk or e-mail or write stories. Being in grade ten, and hearing from the teachers from the previous years that have looked through the practice tests for literacy said that the grade tens use abbreviations and slang terms to answer their tests. This shows how much the media and technology is influencing our literacy skills. Teenagers these days are really hard to understand because of the slang terms created. The amount of slang terms created are so much that one day, we could possibly make a whole new type of english language because of those terms. Using abbreviations such as 'LOL' and 'SMH' is influenced by blogs and social networks, once it it used somewhere, everyone else will use it.  However, an e-reader is not a bad idea at all. Now that people are becoming more and more attached to technology, e-readers can be a good way to lure people in to reading things again. This could possibly bump up their literacy skills, which is a good thing.

2. How is Web 2.0 challenging us to "rethink ourselves" (ie: friendships, work, education, community, family etc...)?

It is challenging us to rethink ourselves because one day we could be affected by the habits of using the internet daily because we have to be detached to it someday. We should not be so attached to the technology because one day it could ruin us. If we don't stop these bad habits, we will grow to depend on technology and not use our own brains to figure things out. Our lives should not be influenced my technology and we should learn to get out more. Like go biking or fishing, maybe do your homework...
